OnePlus has launched its first foldable smartphone, the OnePlus Open, featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Now, OnePlus is collaborating with Oppo and BOE to introduce a new mobile phone screen on October 24. The upcoming panel is expected to have a resolution of 1,440 pixels and a brightness of 3,000 nits. The OnePlus Open can reach a peak brightness of 2,800 nits.
In a post on Weibo, OnePlus announced that it will reveal a new display in collaboration with BOE on October 24. The launch event, called “Sunrise·East,” will be held in Chongqing, China. The teaser poster indicates that OnePlus’s sister company, Oppo, will also be involved in the announcement. The post states, “Sunrise·East! Over the past 30 years, we have progressed from being behind to catching up and surpassing. On October 24, OnePlus and BOE invite you to witness a historic moment for Chinese screens!”
OnePlus has not provided any information about the upcoming display. However, a well-known tipster, Digital Chat Station (translated from Chinese), suggests that the new screen will have a 2K resolution and 3,000 nits of brightness. The upcoming display is rumored to utilize 2160Hz pulse width modulation (PWM) dimming and single pulse DC. OnePlus is anticipated to utilize the BOE display on the OnePlus 12.
The new OnePlus Open has very bright screens, with a peak brightness of 2,800 nits. It uses OxygenOS 13.2, which is based on Android 13. The phone has a 7.82-inch 2K Flexi-fluid LTPO 3.0 AMOLED display with Ultra Thin Glass protection. The display can be dimmed using 1,440Hz pulse-width modulation. There is also a smaller 6.31-inch 2K LTPO 3.0 Super Fluid AMOLED cover display.
OnePlus has equipped the Open foldable handset with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and Adreno 740 GPU. It comes with 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM. The company mentions that the smartphone’s memory can be expanded by using unused storage on the handset in increments of 4GB, 8GB, and 12GB.
For optics, the OnePlus Open has a camera setup with three lenses from Hasselblad. It includes a main camera with 48 megapixels, a telephoto camera with 64 megapixels, and an ultra-wide-angle camera with 48 megapixels. It also has a front-facing camera with 20 megapixels and a secondary camera with 32 megapixels on the outer screen. The OnePlus Open comes with 512GB of storage and a powerful battery with 4,800mAh capacity that supports fast charging with 67W SuperVOOC technology.
